What permissions do authors grant to eScholarship journals?

Each journal is able to choose the terms of the publication agreement it uses with its authors.
At a minimum, journals get authors’ permission to publish the article in eScholarship, free of charge, in perpetuity.
eScholarship journals do not require authors to transfer copyright ownership.
For journals that want guidance in creating a publication agreement, we provide a basic agreement that journals can adapt as needed - see the attached document.
