eScholarship will be implementing a new traffic management solution (Cloudflare) sitewide July 13-24 in order to evaluate the tool's effectiveness in managing AI bot traffic. Recently, large amounts of bot traffic (bot swarms) have affected the reliability of eScholarship and, consequently, visitors to the site have been increasingly required to complete a CAPTCHA test before viewing content. Our aim with this Cloudflare trial is to improve eScholarship's reliability and reduce the effort needed for human readers to access our content.
During the trial period we expect the site to behave normally, however we invite users to report any unexpected behavior they may encounter using this feedback form or contacting us directly.
Note that the Cloudflare trial will only affect the public-facing eScholarship site. Systems for managing content (which require login) are not affected.
