Prepare manuscript for publication

Before you begin

  • Before preparing a manuscript for publication, you should first record the editorial decision as 'Accept' and notify the author.
  • Download the latest version of the manuscript from the file list at the bottom of the '2. Review' page (just under the area where you recorded your editorial decision).
  • Select the 'Send to Copyediting' button at the bottom of the '2. Review' page to indicate that the review process has been completed and copyediting is underway.
(If you do not select 'Send to Copyediting,' the manuscript will remain in the In Review queue, rather than moving to the In Editing queue.)

While the eScholarship submission management system for journals includes tools for tracking the progress of Copyediting, Layout and Proofreading, most journal editors prefer to instead utilize modern document collaboration tools, such as Google Docs, Office 365, Overleaf, etc* to conduct these tasks.

Whichever tool(s) you choose, the end result should be an individual publication-ready PDF per article, which you will upload to the submission management system in the next step.

Note: In 2018, eScholarship plans to upgrade the submission management system to provide collaborative copyediting, layout and proofreading tools.
