You can now create a shortened URL for any eScholarship item or landing page by simply using 'eschol.org' followed by either the landing page's "slug" (the unique portion of the landing page's URL) or the item's unique identifier. Here are some examples:
- An item's URL
(e.g. https://escholarship.org/uc/item/8hh5z5wp)
can be shortened to:
eschol.org/8hh5z5wp - A landing page's URL
(e.g. https://escholarship.org/uc/ucbclassics)
can be shortened to:
eschol.org/ucbclassics
In either case, users will automatically be redirected to the full, persistent URL.
Currently, shortened URLs must be created manually following the examples above. In the near future, you'll begin to see shortened URLs on eScholarship pages, under the 'Share' menu.
Use shortened URLs any time you need to share a link to eScholarship using the fewest possible characters. Pamphlets, posters, and presentations are just a few examples of where short URLs will come in handy. We'd love to hear about other places you find them useful - share your story with us!
