eScholarship API Terms of Use

By using eScholarship APIs, you are agreeing to be bound by the terms below:

1. No excessive requests. You will maintain a reasonable API request rate. Where an API has a request per minute limit, this will be stated in the eScholarship help center article about the API (e.g, the eScholarship API help center article). Users who make excessive API requests that compromise service quality may be throttled or cut off.

2. Rights of third parties. You agree that your use of eScholarship services APIs will not cause infringement of any copyrights or trademarks, violate any proprietary rights or libel laws, or invade the privacy of any person or third party. As part of this responsibility, you will obtain any necessary permissions from authors whose work you deposit using API write access, if you have been granted such access. 

3. No credential sharing. If you have been granted access via credentials specific to you or your organization, you will not share those credentials with another person or organization.

If you violate these terms or otherwise use the API access granted to you for an inappropriate  purpose, CDL may restrict or revoke your access if such action is necessary to maintain the integrity of eScholarship services. CDL will notify you promptly by email if there is concern about the way you are using the API; if your access has been restricted, CDL will work with you in good faith to attempt to resolve the issue and restore appropriate access.
